Mabilung Energy Limited has achieved a landmark milestone in Nepal’s capital market, successfully executing one of the most sophisticated and inclusive Initial Public Offerings (IPO) to date. This groundbreaking equity issuance integrates multiple stakeholder groups, local communities, overseas Nepali workers, and the general public—setting a new standard for capital mobilization that balances corporate growth with social responsibility and diaspora engagement. By raising NPR 1.89 billion through the issuance of 18.9 million shares, representing nearly half of its paid-up capital, Mabilung has demonstrated exceptional strategic planning and stakeholder integration.

A defining feature of this IPO is the innovative allocation framework that empowers the project-affected communities in Sankhuwasabha District with dedicated share ownership. Allocating 10% of paid-up capital exclusively to permanent residents of the impacted municipalities transforms these local citizens from passive recipients to active shareholders, fostering sustainable economic development and strengthening community-corporate partnerships. Complementing this, another 10% of shares were reserved for Nepalis working abroad, offering the diaspora a meaningful opportunity to invest in their homeland’s energy infrastructure and move beyond traditional remittance channels.

The IPO’s democratic capital distribution saw shares allocated to over 38,000 local applicants and 15,000 overseas investors, reflecting both wide market appeal and meticulous execution. Leveraging advanced digital platforms for transparent allocation results and a streamlined refund process, Mabilung ensured an inclusive and user-friendly experience for all stakeholders. This sophisticated approach to technology and operational excellence not only facilitated smooth investor communication but also underscored the company’s commitment to transparency and regulatory compliance.

Beyond capital raising, Mabilung Energy’s IPO sets a transformative precedent for Nepal’s energy sector and capital markets at large. It exemplifies how multi-stakeholder participation and social inclusivity can be harmonized with robust financial strategy to catalyze sustainable growth. This initiative paves the way for future infrastructure projects to adopt similarly innovative financing models that benefit communities, empower the diaspora, and drive national economic progress.
