Miteri Development Bank has disclosed its financial results for the fourth quarter, revealing a period of cautious recalibration amid a challenging banking environment. The bank reported a net profit of NPR 13.04 million, reflecting a 10.03% decline from NPR 14.49 million in the same period last year. This contraction, while signaling pressures on profitability, is largely attributed to broader market conditions rather than institutional weaknesses, marking a phase of strategic realignment for the bank.
A significant factor in this profit dip is the 21.32% fall in net interest income, which decreased from NPR 25.97 million to NPR 20.43 million. This drop highlights the persistent challenges posed by a competitive interest rate environment and shifting sector dynamics. Nevertheless, the bank has achieved a notable success in diversifying its revenue streams, with net fees and commission income more than doubling to NPR 32.6 million from NPR 15 million. This growth underscores Miteri Development Bank’s operational agility and adaptability in broadening its income sources.
Supported by a strong paid-up capital base of NPR 1.21 billion, alongside retained earnings of NPR 156.1 million and reserves totaling NPR 344.2 million, the bank maintains a resilient financial structure. Its asset quality has markedly improved, demonstrated by a dramatic reduction in the non-performing loan ratio from 0.81% to an exceptional 0.28%, reflecting robust credit risk management and a firm commitment to maintaining a healthy loan portfolio.
While distributable profit has slightly increased to NPR 156.1 million, dividend capacity has declined from 14.01% to 12.83%, and earnings per share have fallen from NPR 13.04 to NPR 10.71. These mixed indicators illustrate the balancing act the bank faces between sustaining profitability and delivering shareholder returns during this adjustment phase. The bank’s net worth per share stands solid at NPR 141.11, supported by a price-to-earnings ratio of 64.23, signaling investor confidence in its long-term potential.
Despite current headwinds, Miteri Development Bank’s prudent risk controls and strong liquidity ratio of 35.86% equip it well to navigate uncertainty. This phase of strategic resilience and measured adjustment positions the bank for renewed growth and competitiveness, setting a stable foundation for future success in Nepal’s evolving financial landscape.
