Nepal’s investment landscape is set to experience a historic leap forward as the Nepal Securities Board grants Himalayan Life Insurance Company approval to launch a monumental NRs. 4 billion mutual fund. This marks one of the largest and most ambitious financial initiatives ever introduced by a life insurance company in the country, signaling a bold step toward reshaping capital market dynamics. The new fund is designed to open up broader investment opportunities for the public while reinforcing the growing role of insurance companies in national economic development.
The scheme, officially titled the HLI Large Cap Fund, was proposed by its manager, Himalayan Investment Banker, on Shrawan 1, 2082. After thorough evaluation, the Nepal Securities Board issued its final approval on Shrawan 22, 2082. The fund will issue an unprecedented 40 crore units, each priced at NRs. 10, as part of a carefully structured closed-end plan under the Himalayan Life Insurance Mutual Fund banner.
This launch marks the second time a life insurance company in Nepal has introduced a mutual fund, following the precedent set by Reliable Nepal Life Insurance. However, the HLI Large Cap Fund surpasses all previous efforts in both scale and ambition, making it the largest mutual fund initiative in Nepal’s life insurance sector to date. The move highlights the industry’s increasing capacity to mobilize large-scale capital for long-term growth.
With this groundbreaking launch, Himalayan Life Insurance is positioning itself as a key driver of wealth creation and capital market expansion in Nepal. By bridging the gap between life insurance and investment opportunities, the company is paving the way for a more diversified and resilient financial ecosystem, one that could inspire further innovation and attract new classes of investors.
