The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) will remain closed today, Monday, April 12, 2025 (29th Baishakh, 2082), as the Government of Nepal has declared a public holiday in observance of Buddha Jayanti.
Trading activities at the stock exchange will resume on Tuesday, April 13, 2025 (30th Baishakh, 2082), starting at 11:00 AM. Buddha Jayanti, also known as Buddha Purnima, is a major Buddhist festival that marks the birth, enlightenment, and death (nirvana) of Lord Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism.
Celebrated on the full moon day of Vaisakha, the occasion holds deep spiritual significance for Buddhists around the world. Devotees observe the day by visiting temples and monasteries, offering prayers, meditating, and engaging in acts of kindness. Rituals such as lighting lamps, offering flowers and incense, and chanting mantras are common across Nepal and other Buddhist communities globally. The festival serves as a reminder of the values of compassion, non-violence, and mindfulness taught by the Buddha, encouraging followers to reflect on and practice these teachings in daily life.
