In a historic stride for Nepal’s tourism and infrastructure sectors, Bandipur Cable Car & Tourism Limited has officially launched its much anticipated Initial Public Offering (IPO) today. The public issue offers 5.86 million ordinary shares at a face value of NPR 100 per share, aiming to raise a remarkable NPR 586 million in capital. Far beyond a traditional fundraising initiative, this IPO represents a transformative shift toward inclusive, community-centered investment, bringing together local residents and the global Nepali diaspora in a shared vision for national progress.
The IPO has received formal approval from the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) and is being managed by Nepal SBI Merchant Banking Ltd.. With today’s opening, the company begins allocating shares under a carefully crafted plan that empowers a wide range of investors. Notably, 566,500 shares (2% of issued capital) have been reserved exclusively for residents of project-affected areas, including all wards of Bandipur and Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipalities in Tanahun, and specific wards in Bhanu Municipality and Palungtar Municipality of Gorkha. Eligible locals may apply for a minimum of 10 shares and up to 20,000 shares, with application centers set up at the company’s Kalimati office, the lower station of the cable car, and local municipal and ward offices.
In a bold and visionary move, 529,400 shares, amounting to 10% of the public portion, have been allocated to Nepalis in foreign employment, signaling a milestone in diaspora engagement. Nepalis abroad can invest through all ASBA-approved banks and financial institutions, or via the Meroshare Portal by CDS and Clearing Ltd. This initiative acknowledges the invaluable contribution of overseas Nepalis and invites them to become stakeholders in one of Nepal’s most promising tourism ventures. The IPO is structured with flexible timelines to ensure broad participation. For local residents, the application window opens today and may close as early as Shrawan 20 or extend until Bhadra 4, while for the diaspora, the earliest close is Shrawan 9, with a final deadline of Bhadra 20. This phased schedule offers ample time for informed decisions while maintaining investor momentum.
The Bandipur Cable Car project is set to revolutionize tourism in Nepal by connecting the historic hilltop town of Bandipur with the Prithvi Highway, enhancing accessibility while preserving the region’s cultural charm. By launching this IPO, the company is not just raising funds but creating a shared ownership model where economic empowerment and tourism development go hand in hand. Today’s IPO launch symbolizes more than financial opportunity, it is a declaration of intent to build an economic ecosystem rooted in inclusion, sustainability, and national pride.
