Finance Minister Directs Securities Board to Act Above Pressure and Influence
Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel urges SEBON to operate transparently and independently, free from pressure or influence, while prioritizing reforms and investor protection.

In a firm call for institutional integrity, Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has instructed the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) to perform its regulatory duties independently and transparently, rising above all forms of external pressure and political influence.
Speaking at a program held in Kathmandu on the occasion of SEBON’s 33rd anniversary, Minister Paudel emphasized that the government is committed to qualitative reform of the board. He added that the upcoming national budget will prioritize SEBON’s institutional enhancement and capacity building.
The Finance Minister outlined two core responsibilities for the regulatory body: Encourage and reward good actors in the capital market and take strict action against wrongdoers and those violating market norms.
Minister Paudel also noted that public criticism and scrutiny of SEBON’s actions are not uncommon. However, he firmly stressed that zero tolerance should be maintained for any irregularities that could negatively impact investors or shake public trust in the securities market.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by SEBON as a regulator, he urged the board to resist any pressure or influence and operate with full transparency. He further added that SEBON must work to build a trustworthy investment environment and raise investor awareness across all levels.
