Nepal’s stock market demonstrated renewed strength, with a notable 0.30% gain that pushed the NEPSE index to 2,867.52 points. The rebound, though modest, is being viewed as a technically significant move, potentially signaling the end of the recent corrective phase. With both institutional and retail investors stepping back into the market, confidence seems to be returning, particularly in high-performing sectors and fundamentally sound stocks.
The Sensitive Index, a barometer of large-cap stock performance, climbed by an impressive 0.84% to reach 494.87 points. This rise underlines the renewed focus on companies with strong balance sheets and consistent earnings. Turnover remained robust at NPR 10.82 billion, suggesting continued investor engagement despite recent volatility. With over 271 million shares traded across 315 scrips, market activity remained energetic and broad-based, supporting the view that this recovery has depth and traction.
Sector-wise, the trade sector led the charge with a 2.90% surge, reflecting improving sentiment around consumer-facing businesses. The banking sector followed with a 1.62% gain, highlighting growing confidence in financial stability. At the same time, hydropower stocks like Swet Ganga and Bindhyabasini rose sharply, pointing to ongoing interest in energy and infrastructure plays. While some sectors such as hotels and finance saw minor corrections, the overall breadth of the rally adds weight to a potential trend reversal.
Stocks like Himalayan Reinsurance and Shivam Cement remained among the most active, maintaining high investor interest. Analysts believe the current rally is not just a short-term technical bounce but may be supported by improving economic indicators, government reforms, and a more stable macro environment. If this momentum continues, NEPSE may be entering a fresh bullish phase that could attract long-term capital and support Nepal’s financial market development.
