World Bank Approves $257 Million Loan for Nepal
$120 million will go to the Electricity Supply System Improvement Project, remaining $137 million will fund Phase III of the Rani Jamara Kulariya Irrigation Project.

The World Bank has approved a $257 million loan to Nepal for two key infrastructure projects aimed at improving electricity distribution and irrigation services.
$120 million will go to the Electricity Supply System Improvement Project, which will enhance the power distribution network in Koshi, Bagmati, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. The project, managed by the Nepal Electricity Authority, includes building substations, upgrading infrastructure, and introducing automated monitoring systems.
The remaining $137 million will fund Phase III of the Rani Jamara Kulariya Irrigation Project in Kailali district, bringing year-round irrigation to 17,500 hectares and benefiting around 160,000 people. The project aims to increase agricultural productivity and support rural livelihoods.
Officials say these projects will support Nepal’s economic growth and help modernize vital sectors like energy and agriculture.
