Sagar Distillery Limited is launching a unique Initial Public Offering (IPO) starting Shrawan 28, designed specifically to engage Nepali workers abroad as active investors in Nepal’s growing industrial sector. The company has allocated NPR 145.2 million worth of shares, representing 20% of its total paid-up capital of NPR 726 million. Notably, 10% of this offering, 145,200 shares, has been exclusively reserved for Nepali expatriates holding valid government labor permits, giving them a rare chance to move beyond remittances and become true stakeholders in Nepal’s economic development.
This IPO allows overseas Nepalis to invest with flexibility, requiring a minimum purchase of 10 shares and permitting a maximum of up to 7,000 shares per individual. The application window opens on Shrawan 28 and runs until Bhadra 1, with a possible extension until Bhadra 11 if subscription targets are not met. This timeline is thoughtfully designed to accommodate Nepali investors living in different parts of the world, ensuring broad access and participation. Applications will be processed via the C-ASBA system through approved banks and financial institutions, streamlining the process and maintaining regulatory compliance.
Infomerics Credit Rating Nepal has assigned Sagar Distillery an IRN Single B Plus Issuer Rating, indicating a higher risk in meeting financial obligations on time. This transparent disclosure encourages potential investors to carefully assess the risks alongside the growth potential of the company. Despite the risk, this IPO offers a unique opportunity for Nepali migrant workers to invest in their home country’s industrial growth, creating long-term economic ties rather than just sending remittances.
By inviting its diaspora to participate directly in capital markets, Sagar Distillery is pioneering a new model of financial inclusion and national development. This approach not only empowers overseas Nepalis with investment opportunities but also sets a precedent for other companies to mobilize diaspora capital, potentially transforming Nepal’s economic landscape and strengthening its ties with the global Nepali community.
