The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) has ended a period of uncertainty by reaffirming its commitment to Nepal’s development, marking a key diplomatic and economic achievement. After a suspension under a U.S. executive order in Magh 6, 2075, MCC completed its review on Shrawan 8, 2082, and recommended continuing the Nepal Compact projects.
Originally launched in 2017, the Nepal Compact includes major infrastructure and energy projects such as a 297-km electricity transmission line, road maintenance, three substations, and an 18-km cross-border link. These projects are vital for Nepal’s energy independence and economic growth.
The Ministry of Finance’s announcement brings clarity after months of uncertainty that affected contractors, agencies, and communities. MCC’s renewed support restores confidence and ensures progress on key developments.
This decision also sends a positive signal to Nepal’s broader development and investment sectors, reinforcing confidence in Nepal’s institutional capacity and reform efforts. The MCC’s continued involvement will boost regional connectivity and energy security, strengthening Nepal’s path toward economic modernization.
The smooth resolution of the review highlights the strong diplomatic ties between Nepal and the U.S. and underscores how development partnerships can endure political changes while advancing long-term goals.
