Massive Rise in Female Investors in Nepal’s Capital Market Over 7 Years
The number of female investors has surged by over 23.93 lakh, increasing from just around 5 lakh in 2075 BS to nearly 29 lakh in 2082 BS.

In the past seven years, Nepal’s capital market has seen a remarkable rise in female participation. According to data from CDS and Clearing Limited (CDSC), the number of female investors has surged by over 23.93 lakh, increasing from just around 5 lakh in 2075 BS to nearly 29 lakh in 2082 BS. This marks a massive growth of approximately 478.6%.
This surge is part of a broader trend of increased public engagement in the capital market, with the total number of Demat accounts in the country crossing 62 lakh by mid-2024. The rise in female investors reflects growing awareness, financial literacy, and access to digital platforms that make investing more convenient.
Digital tools like Mero Share and the C-ASBA system have played a significant role in this transformation. These systems have simplified the process of applying for shares and managing investments, making it more accessible, especially for women who balance multiple responsibilities.
Free Demat account campaigns, educational content on social media, and the ability to trade online from home have also contributed to this shift. More women are now seeing the capital market not just as a place to save money but as an opportunity to grow their wealth and become financially independent.
