The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has granted in-principle approval for the merger of Grameen Bikas Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha and Samaj Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha. The central bank officially issued the approval on Jestha 22, 2082  through a formal notification sent to both institutions.

This approval follows the initial merger agreement signed on Falgun 18, 2080 , when the two microfinance companies agreed to pursue a strategic unification to strengthen their financial and operational capabilities.

The proposed merger aims to enhance financial outreach, improve efficiency, and better serve rural and underbanked communities across Nepal. With NRB’s green light, the companies will now move forward with the formal due diligence, regulatory compliance, and procedural steps required to complete the merger process.

This move reflects a broader trend in Nepal’s financial sector, where consolidation is encouraged to build stronger, more resilient institutions aligned with regulatory standards and inclusive finance goals.
