Tokyo Stock Market Rises Following U.S. Suspension of Tariffs on EU Goods
The Tokyo stock market closed significantly higher on Monday after the United States announced a temporary suspension of tariffs on European Union goods, boosting investor sentiment across global markets.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index surged by 371.06 points, or 1%, to close at 37,531.53. The rally was driven by improved outlooks in early U.S. market futures, reflecting optimism over easing trade tensions.
The broader Topix index, which tracks performance across all major companies listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, also posted gains — rising 16.39 points, or 0.6%, to finish at 2,751.91.
Market data showed that out of all companies traded on Tokyo’s main exchange, 1,085 saw their stock prices increase, while 482 declined and 64 remained unchanged.
Analysts say the U.S. decision to pause tariffs on EU goods has alleviated concerns over global trade friction, providing a short-term boost to investor confidence and contributing to the market upswing in Tokyo.
