PMO Steps In as Government Moves to Ease LPG Supply Shortage

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has stepped up efforts to address the ongoing LPG supply concerns by holding a high-level meeting with government agencies, Nepal Oil Corporation, gas industry representatives, and distributors on Tuesday. Chaired by Chief Secretary Govindabahadur Karki, the meeting reviewed the causes of the supply disruption and discussed measures to improve distribution. Gas dealers maintained that there is no actual shortage, attributing the situation to panic buying and increased consumer stockpiling after the government resumed distributing full 14.2 kg cylinders. To ensure a smooth supply during the upcoming Dashain and festival season, the meeting decided to import more than 50,000 metric tons of LPG per month over the next three months. The PMO also directed relevant agencies to strengthen coordination and distribution management in districts facing supply disruptions, while pledging continued discussions to find a long-term solution to the recurring gas shortage.
