Trump Administration Unveils Limited-Edition "Patriot Passport" for US Semiquincentennial

The US State Department has announced a highly exclusive, commemorative passport featuring President Donald Trump's likeness and signature to mark America's 250th anniversary, sparking debate over the unprecedented inclusion of a sitting president on official documents.

Trump Administration Unveils Limited-Edition "Patriot Passport" for US Semiquincentennial

The Trump administration has officially introduced a limited-edition US passport design to celebrate the nation's 250th anniversary. Unveiled by President Donald Trump on social media, the commemorative document—dubbed the "Patriot Passport" by the White House—features an image of the president with his fists on the Resolute Desk, superimposed over the Declaration of Independence and accompanied by his signature. This marks the first time in history that a living, sitting US president has been featured on an official passport, a departure from traditional designs that showcase historic milestones like the Moon landing or national symbols like the Statue of Liberty. The US State Department confirmed that the passports will be available starting July 6 on a strictly limited basis. Currently, the acquisition process is tightly restricted; citizens cannot apply online or by mail and must instead secure an in-person appointment at the Washington Passport Agency or attend one of a few select special acceptance events. It remains unclear whether applicants visiting the Washington office can opt out of receiving this specific edition. The design itself has evolved since its initial April announcement, which originally featured only Trump's face and a gold signature without the "250" branding. This release is part of a broader, concerted effort by the administration to incorporate the president’s name and likeness into American civic institutions, documents, and landmarks. Alongside the passport, the US Mint has announced plans for a commemorative gold coin, and Trump is slated to become the first sitting president to have his signature featured on US banknotes. These branding efforts extend into the physical architecture of the capital, following previous attempts to add his name to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and ongoing proposals to construct the "Arc de Trump"—a massive triumphal arch in Washington, D.C., modeled after Paris's Arc de Triomphe.
