A Fragile Peace: Trump Grants Indefinite Ceasefire Extension Amid Iranian Leadership Shifts

US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he will extend the two-week ceasefire with Iran, which was scheduled to expire Wednesday night. However, Trump clarified that the naval blockade and military sanctions against Iran will remain in full force despite the pause in active combat.

A Fragile Peace: Trump Grants Indefinite Ceasefire Extension Amid Iranian Leadership Shifts

President Donald Trump has confirmed an extension of the current truce with Iran, stating the ceasefire will remain in place until a formal proposal is presented and negotiations reach a conclusion. This announcement marks a shift from his previous rhetoric, where he had signaled a low probability of an extension and threatened to resume bombing if no agreement was reached. The geopolitical weight of the situation is evident as Vice President JD Vance’s scheduled visit to Pakistan has been postponed to facilitate high-level meetings at the White House.

In response, Iranian officials have expressed skepticism regarding Washington's intentions. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claimed the US is already violating the ceasefire by maintaining a naval blockade on Iranian ports. The Iranian Foreign Ministry further noted that they are still deliberating on whether to continue peace talks, citing "contradictory messages" from the US administration as a primary cause for their hesitation.
