Investor Protest Forces SEBON to the Negotiating Table

The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has agreed to hold talks with protesting investors after a tense demonstration outside its headquarters on Tuesday morning demanding urgent intervention to stabilize the country's declining stock market. SEBON Chairman Gopal Prasad Bhatt invited five representatives of the protesting group for formal discussions, easing tensions at the protest site. Led by investor activist Tilak Koirala, demonstrators had gathered outside the regulator's office demanding a concrete rescue plan to restore investor confidence and protect billions of rupees invested by the public. Protesters initially attempted to lock the board's office, but police prevented the move, leading to continued slogan chanting. Responding to mounting pressure, Chairman Bhatt expressed his willingness to openly discuss the investors' demands and possible measures the regulator could adopt to revive the capital market. The protesting group is currently selecting its representatives for the meeting, while maintaining that their demonstration will continue until concrete commitments are made. Security remains on high alert outside the SEBON office as investors await the outcome of what is expected to be a crucial discussion for Nepal's capital market.
