Reform and Service Delivery are Top Priorities: Finance Minister

Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle announced that the government is prioritizing digital service delivery and large-scale economic reforms, including the repeal of outdated laws to modernize the economy.

Reform and Service Delivery are Top Priorities: Finance Minister

Addressing the Intergovernmental Finance Council at the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Swarnim Wagle emphasized a dual focus on macro-level policy transformation and micro-level service delivery. He highlighted the government's shift toward a digital-first approach to ensure citizens receive efficient services, even considering door-to-door delivery through mobilized state mechanisms. Minister Wagle noted that the administration is not just looking for incremental changes but is prepared to take a "leap" in sectors such as tourism, agriculture, energy, and construction.

A significant part of this reform includes a legal overhaul to remove bureaucratic hurdles. The Minister revealed that 15 outdated acts, some dating back to 1956 and 1961, are already in the process of being repealed, with dozens more slated for amendment or removal in the upcoming budget. To accelerate these structural changes, the government is considering both ordinances and budgetary measures. He also clarified that while the Revenue Investigation Department was restructured on his first day in office, its core functions have been integrated into other agencies to maintain administrative continuity while fostering a more investment-friendly environment.
