NRB Governor Says Monetary Policy Backs Government Agenda, Not a Standalone Economic Solution

Governor Prof. Dr. Bishwanath Poudel said the FY 2083/84 monetary policy is designed to complement the government's budget and reform agenda, stressing that the central bank alone cannot solve all economic challenges.

NRB Governor Says Monetary Policy Backs Government Agenda, Not a Standalone Economic Solution

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Prof. Dr. Bishwanath Poudel has said the Monetary Policy for FY 2083/84 has been formulated to support the government's annual budget and policy priorities rather than function as an independent economic roadmap. Speaking at a policy discussion in Kathmandu, he emphasized that monetary policy is intended to complement fiscal policy and contribute to achieving the government's broader economic objectives. Governor Poudel noted that public expectations of the annual monetary policy have often exceeded its actual mandate, clarifying that many economic and welfare issues fall under the government's responsibility. He also highlighted improved confidentiality during the policy drafting process, stating that no information was leaked before its official release. Former NRB Executive Director Nara Bahadur Thapa described the policy as more focused than previous editions, saying it targets priority areas through a structured approach while also introducing measures to support corporate restructuring and promote sustainable entrepreneurship in Nepal.
