25 Companies Line Up for Right Shares Despite Market Slump

Despite a sluggish secondary market and a two-month leadership vacuum at the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON), 25 companies are lined up awaiting approval for right shares worth over Rs. 25.47 billion, heavily dominated by the hydropower sector.

25 Companies Line Up for Right Shares Despite Market Slump

According to the regulatory department’s data for the current fiscal year 2082/83, the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has a massive pipeline of 25 companies waiting to issue right shares worth a combined total of Rs. 25,47,77,05,627. This rush persists even though approvals for both right shares and IPOs have been halted for over a month and a half due to the vacant chairperson position at SEBON. Out of the total applicants, 23 companies—predominantly from the hydropower sector, alongside manufacturing, investment, hotel, and insurance sectors—are in the preliminary review stage, aiming to float over 23.91 crore units of shares to raise Rs. 23.91 billion. Recently, companies like Peoples Hydropower and Arun Kabeli Power have also submitted new applications despite the ongoing leadership vacuum. While 7 companies successfully secured final approvals earlier this fiscal year (up until March 9, 2026) to raise Rs. 4.94 billion, no new approvals have been granted since Himalayan Power Partner’s clearance on that date. Meanwhile, SEBON has issued a cautious note to investors, clarifying that being on the pipeline list does not guarantee final approval, as permission will only be granted after a thorough and transparent review of financial disclosures and compliance with regulatory standards.
