Finance Minister Seeks Stronger Banking Partnership to Revive Nepal’s Economy

Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has urged Nepal’s commercial banks to play a more proactive role in reviving the economy, highlighting the need to restore investor confidence despite low interest rates and ample liquidity in the banking system. Speaking during a meeting with bank CEOs on Tuesday, Wagle said the government intends to work as a partner with the private sector rather than merely as a regulator. He emphasized that economic growth and job creation require close coordination between the Ministry of Finance, Nepal Rastra Bank, and commercial banks. Assuring support for legal and procedural reforms, the Finance Minister said the banking sector’s recommendations would be incorporated into a concrete policy roadmap to encourage investment and drive sustainable economic growth.
