Tragedy at Ras Laffan: 13 Dead, Dozens Injured—Including Nepalese Workers—in Qatar Gas Facility Blast

A catastrophic industrial explosion on Sunday night at the Barzan gas processing plant in Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City has claimed the lives of 13 people and left 66 others injured, marking a major safety crisis in the Gulf nation. Among those injured in the blast are migrant laborers from several countries, including Nepal, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, though officials report that none of the wounded are currently in critical condition. The individuals killed were identified as Indian and Pakistani nationals. Qatar’s Energy Minister and QatarEnergy CEO, Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi, clarified that the explosion was a strictly "technical accident" rather than an act of sabotage, noting that the plant had only been operational for two days following a long-term maintenance period that started in December 2025. While expressing deep condolences to the victims' families, al-Kaabi emphasized that Qatar's extensive liquefied natural gas (LNG) export infrastructure and global supply commitments remain completely undisrupted. A formal investigation is currently underway to uncover the exact cause of the blast.
