Kathmandu Tangled Web: Government Moves to Untangle Valley’s Cable Chaos

The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, in partnership with the Ministry of Information and Communication, has launched a major cleanup initiative to remove unused, tangled overhead cables across key areas of the Kathmandu Valley. The drive aims to eliminate urban eyesores, boost public safety, and minimize roadside hazards.

Kathmandu Tangled Web: Government Moves to Untangle Valley’s Cable Chaos

In a coordinated effort to tackle the growing problem of urban clutter and hazardous infrastructure, the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, alongside the Ministry of Information and Communication, has initiated a sweeping campaign to clear away unused and tangled electric and communication cables throughout the Kathmandu Valley. The government has prioritized several highly congested and problematic zones for the initial phase of the cleanup, including heavy-traffic hubs and residential neighborhoods such as Tripureshwar, Kalimati, Kalanki, Jadibuti, Pepsi Cola, Lajimpat, Samakhushi Town Planning, Gongabu, Kirtipur, Old Baneshwar, Gaushala, and Chabahil. By systematically dismantling these sagging networks, authorities are focusing heavily on improving public safety, mitigating severe risks to motorists and pedestrians, and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the capital city by wiping out a long-standing urban eyesore.
